Committed to Sustainable Recycling

At Freeland, we’re proud to play a leading role in reducing the amount of organic waste sent to landfill. As a market leader in the recycling industry, we operate three purpose-built green waste composting facilities across the UK, processing more than 150,000 tonnes of garden waste every year.

Our commitment to sustainability provides councils, businesses, and communities with a cost-effective way to meet recycling targets while creating high-quality compost for the future.

Organic waste collected by local authorities and industry from homes and businesses is processed over a 12-week cycle. Every stage of the process is managed to ensure quality and safety:

  • Inspection & Sorting – All incoming waste is checked for contamination.

  • Shredding & Windrowing – Material is shredded and formed into long windrows.

  • Regular Turning – Windrows are turned frequently to optimise natural composting.

  • Maturation & Testing – Compost is matured, sampled, and independently tested to PAS100 standards.

The result is a clean, sustainable, and nutrient-rich compost product.
